my enchanted flower

Bloom Report!

This is the time of year to check in on our landscapes and see who’s thriving and throwing in the towel. Here are a few standouts from our gardens:

Vinca

, Bloom Report!

Vinca is always on this list—and for good reason. These cascades bloomed long after the veggies they were planted succumbed to the heat.

Fan Flower

, Bloom Report!

Socorro designed these gorgeous containers for our entryway several months ago, and they are bursting at the seams with color. The vibrant violet of Scaveola or Fan Flower holds them together.

Pride of Barbados

, Bloom Report!

It took them a little while to get cooking, but our Pride of Barbados is putting on an impressive summertime show. This one has been a reliable part of our summer landscape for many years, greeting customers with a vivid display of reds and oranges atop that signature almost fern-like foliage.

Turk’s Cap

, Bloom Report!

More understated, but just as impactful, Turk’s Cap is dotted with its uniquely shaped flowers almost constantly from Spring to Fall. This one in the full, full sun of our front parking lot is mirrored by another along our creek which gets quite a lot of shade. Both are healthy and covered with flowers!

Portulaca

, Bloom Report!

Portulaca or Moss Rose is about as sturdy a plant as they come. They love a good drought and really turn up the amperage on their flowers when most plants can’t cope with the heat. While many plants struggle to get established at the temperatures we’re seeing, these are relatively new plantings and are looking about as happy as can be. Not to be outdone, the gomphrena in the background are really strutting their stuff, too!
